Technology got us into this mess and technology will get us out of it.
The Pepsi Cola Company recently starting producing bottles from 100% plant based material. 3 years ago the technology only allowed bottles that were only 30% plant based material. To do it they had to create a molecular structure that was identical to plastic so technology wise that was a quick/giant step forward in a very small way (molecules are really-really tiny).
Not sure about this part but if scientist can now create molecular structure then soon they will be able make replicators - like on Startrek (but without all the annoying buzzing and beeping sounds).
Maybe they will be able to go to toxic waste dumps and mess around with the molecular structure to make it harmless and useful. Cheers!
